SFMO's Beginnings ...

San Francisco Church of God The church that birthed SFMO began after the 1906 earthquake when missionaries from the Church of God training house in Oakland came across the bay on ferries to help the people living in Golden Gate Park who had been displaced by the earthquake. What began as a movement of compassion over 100 years ago continues today at our new headquarters location at 160 Sixth Street in the heart of the city (map). This facility now houses the Church of God congregation, the San Francisco Mission Outpost and City Crossroads Ministries under one roof in the South of Market Area. Join us each Sunday at 11:00 am for Worship Celebrations.

Today...

Pastor Mike and Ann Moberg began hosting groups of short-term missionaries in their home and at their church facility in 2000.

Besides hosting SFMO the Moberg's are pastors of Church of God Outpost, a multi-cultural fellowship, and directiors of City Crossroads, an outreach of the church to inner-city youth and children.

Heather

With the increased numbers of missionaries came the need for more help and God sent someone in the person of Heather Phillips. While serving as a summer intern God's pull on her heart made it very clear that she was to serve in the inner-city of San Francisco. Heather came back each summer while in college and now after graduation has joined the SFMO team.

"Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings." Isaiah 58:12

SFMO is an outreach ministry of Church of God Outpost , a congregation affiliated with the Church of God with General Offices in Anderson, Indiana (map).

Historically the Church of God has not made use of credal statements to define the Christian Faith. Believing that all such attempts fail to capture the full truth of God's Word we have encouraged Believer's, individually and corporately, to study the Bible that they might be able to "give a reason for the Hope that is within them, with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15, paraphrased).

We offer these brief comments for the benefit of those unfamiliar with the beliefs of the community of Evangelical Christians:

The Bible is...

  • the inspired Word of God,
  • the final authority for Christian faith and living.

God exists eternally in three persons:

  • Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
  • God is creator of all things,
  • God is perfect in love, and is righteous in all ways.

Jesus Christ is God's eternal Son;

  •  born of a virgin, He took the form of man;
  •  through His sinless life He taught us how to live;
  • He was crucified as a sacrifice for our sins;
  • He rose from the dead, according to the scriptures;
  • returned to heaven to prepare a place for us;
  • He will come again to receive believers into the presence of God.

Men and Women created in God's Image,

  • were tempted by Satan and rebelled against God.
  • through repentance and personal faith in Christ, we are forgiven of our sins,
  • reborn into a new relationship with God placed into the body of Christ.

The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin,

  • guides us to repent and confess Christ as Savior.
  • He lives in us, teaches us
  • empowers us by His presence to live a holy life.

The Church is the living body of Christ,

  • on mission for Christ in the world.
  • Christ is its head.
  • division in the Body of Christ is inappropriate,
  • the Body is composed of all who have received Christ as Savior and have accepted Him as Lord.

The Kingdom of God is a present reality in the world.

  • Its citizens are all those who willingly submit to the Lordship of Christ and the rule and reign of God.
